Sacred Principles
Rooted in values, carried
The sacred principles of ʔiisaak, hišḥukʷiš c̕awaak, and ʔuuʔałuk shape how the Maa-nulth Nations live, lead, and relate to all things. These teachings are responsibilities, reflected in governance, relationships, and everyday life.

ʔiisaak
Respect for all things
To practice ʔiisaak is to approach the world with humility, awareness, and care—recognizing the value in every being, place, and story.

hišḥukʷiš c̕awaak
Everything is connected
This principle reminds us that land, water, people, and spirit are interconnected. Our choices ripple across generations and ecosystems.
ʔuuʔałuk
To take responsibility
ʔuuʔałuk calls us to care for one another and fulfill our roles with intention—within families, Nations, and the lands we steward.
These teachings guide our governance,
and our relationships—with land, ancestors, and future generations.
